This session will address the discrepancy between IDEA's requirement for family engagement and meaningful parental participation and families' actual experiences. It will: 1) emphasize the impact on student outcomes when communities are avtively engaged; 2) explore barriers to preventing meaningful engagement; 3) outline key attributes of successful family/professional partnerships; and 4) propose strategies to support family engagement.
